Independent Carbon Project Selection
The Carbon Exchange sits at the heart of the dcarbon8 Supply Chain Network. It offers Network members and their customers a unique platform for selecting carbon projects to offset business and product footprints.
It stands out because of its independence and transparency. It is unlike other carbon platforms where the origin of the carbon credit is often not traceable or the projects are all developed by the same company. Our Carbon Exchange contains a varied and independent selection of projects from a range of developers covering a number of different continents.
Online Carbon Accounting
For Planet Positive certification you'll need to buy sufficient dcarbon8 carbon credits to offset 110 per cent of your carbon footprint. These dcarbon8 credits are then entered into your online member account where you can offset them into projects which fit best with your own corporate values and priorities.
The uniqueness of the Carbon Exchange is evident when dealing with materials and products in the supply chain. You can add sufficient dcarbon8 carbon credits to offset your carbon impact in the manufacturing process and transfer the balance to your customer with the product you sell.
End User Can Invest the Carbon
At each stage of the supply chain, members can add dcarbon8 carbon credits and transfer them on to their own customers. In this way, dcarbon8 carbon credits are transferred down to the final end user who has commissioned the product.
They are effectively the owner of the product carbon footprint (and its associated carbon credits). The end user can then access the dcarbon8 Carbon Exchange to select which carbon projects they would like to invest in.
Blends - simplifying the cost of carbon
The price of creating a carbon credit (i.e. keeping a tonne of carbon from entering the atmosphere) can vary significantly depending on the project location and the technology used to create the emission reduction. In our Carbon Exchange, we have therefore created a unique selection of blends arranged by both Technology and Region.
By constantly reviewing the projects and their respective weightings within the blends we ensure that we can provide investment into a balance of different projects for the same price per tonne of CO2 equivalent. This way, all worthwhile projects are supported, not just the cheapest. Our projects are arranged into both technology blends and geographical blends.
Each dcarbon8 credit has a notional value of 1 tonne of CO2 equivalent and each can be exchanged for 1 tonne CO2 equivalent from whichever blend is selected. In addition, each blend incorporates a donation to the dcarbon8 CSR Blend which sponsors charity projects in developing countries. Each of the CSR projects has been specially selected for its focus on its environmental and social benefits.
